چکیده

Few studies have been reported in the literature on variation in shape and arrangement of the flagella on bacteria. Leifson (1951) reported a shape variation of the flagella of Salmonella wichita. The variant showed twice the humber of curves per unit length compared to the parent strain. In the same publication Leifson also reported a monotrichous organism which produced filamentous variants showing lateral flagella. The lateral flagella were interpreted to be essentially polar. Gray and Thornton (1928) described two organisms which they placed in a new genus Mycoplana. The one organism was described as having "polar, peritrichous" and the other as having "polar or peritrichous" flagella. Unfortunately, their illustrations are only drawings, and the flagellation shown is difficult or impossible to evaluate.

The Hanging Drop Slide Technique to Study Bacterial Motility

In this exercise you will learn to make hanging drop slides and then use this technique to observe the motility of living bacteria. Motility is an important characteristic used to identify microorganisms. Three bacteria will be used which vary in size, shape and arrangement of flagella, and types of motion. Specifically you will observe Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a monotrichous bacterium that exhi...

Staining bacterial flagella easily.

A wet-mount technique for staining bacterial flagella is highly successful when a stable stain and regular slides and cover slips are used. Although not producing a permanent mount, the technique is simple for routine use when the number and arrangement of flagella are critical in identifying species of motile bacteria.

Molecular Study of Phase Variation of Type 1 Fimbriae in Uropathogenic Escherichia coli O44 Serotypes during Touching with Solid Surfaces

Background & Aims: Type 1 fimbriae is the most common adhesion factor in urine tract infection. In this Study, presence of virulence genes in isolated strains of uropathogenic E.Coli, O serotyping and molecular detection of phase variation of type 1 fimbriae were assessed during solid surfaces exposure. Methods: Isolated E.coli from urine samples of patients were serotyped by using serologic me...

Study on Braking Panels in High Speed Trains Using CFD

With speed increasing in high-speed trains, due to limitations of other types of brakes, aerodynamic brake has become an important braking method. In this task to make better use of brake’s panel different configurations are examined and the best panel shape which provides the reasonable drag coefficient is introduced. The results of simulations are carried out with the computational fluid dyna...
